Workshops

Our workshops are perfectly suitable for beginners as well as those with previous experience.  They are sometimes over-subscribed so early booking is recommended.  We continue to offer online workshops, where numbers are nto restricted.

Next workshops:

Morning Daoyin

Literally translated into English as something along the lines of “guiding and pulling”, Daoyin is often understood as an ancient precursor of Qigong.  While not untrue on one level this does not describe the full picture.  In this session we will explore a practice intended to create opening and release in the body and mind.  Ideal as a preparation for seated practice it is also a marvellous way to start the day, combining self-massage, breathing and gently held postures, mostly taking place on a mat as in yoga.  There will be a break for tea and time for a Q&A at the end of the session.  No previous experience necessary.  Please wear loose and comfortable clothing.  This is an in-person event, not online, and it will not be recorded.  Numbers will be capped for the comfort of participants.

WATER - An Elemental Qigong Workshop with Tom & Richard

Water is our deep potential to develop and change.  It is essential to life, and in a very real sense we are water.  When the Water Element is healthy it can affect the whole balance of yin and yang forces in the body and bring about deep vitality.  In this workshop we will explore forms that focus on the Yin organs, and in particular the Kidneys.  The Kidneys are the primary organ associated with the Water Element and are said to “store the essence (jing)”.  The session will be gently paced and perfectly suitable for the beginner.  There will be a short break.  Please contact the North London Buddhist Centre to book your place.

WOOD - An Elemental Qigong Workshop

Wood is the power of growth and is associated with the season of Spring.  In the body it manifests as the Liver and Gall Bladder organs, responsible for planning, decision-making and the free flow of Blood, Qi and the emotions.  The Liver in particular is said to house our 'wild inner spirit' and its vitality governs the healthy expression of this aspect of us, including our sexuality.  The expansive and spiralling qualities of Wood and its connection to these organs and their meridians will be explored in both moving and static forms.  The Deer is the animal most associated with the Wood Element and we will use several Deer forms that embody the animal's power and grace.  The session will be gently paced and will be perfect for the beginner.  There will be a short break.
