Next workshops:

WOOD - An Elemental Qigong Workshop

Wood is the power of growth and is associated with the season of Spring.  In the body it manifests as the Liver and Gall Bladder organs, responsible for planning, decision-making and the free flow of Blood, Qi and the emotions.  The Liver in particular is said to house our 'wild inner spirit' and its vitality governs the healthy expression of this aspect of us, including our sexuality.  The expansive and spiralling qualities of Wood and its connection to these organs and their meridians will be explored in both moving and static forms.  The Deer is the animal most associated with the Wood Element and we will use several Deer forms that embody the animal's power and grace.  The session will be gently paced and will be perfect for the beginner.  There will be a short break.

Monthly in-person Sunday morning Qigong

Each of these monthly qigong workshops will begin with some general qigong to warm up and prepare the body before shifting focus to a particular theme or practice.  We will explore some of the Animal Frolics – playful forms inspired by the Tiger, the Bear, and so on.  We will look at practices oriented around the “energetic vessels”, such as the internal organs of the body, and the Five Elements.  There will be static and moving practices.  All will be suitable for the beginner and no previous experience of qigong is necessary.  There will be a break for tea, and time for questions and discussion.

For the April session the theme will be "The Art of Body Refinement through the Element of Wood", working with the external vessels (or joints).  In particular, we will explore rather special sequences of movements and postures for the hips and shoulders.

FIRE: An Elemental Qigong Workshop

Fire is the expansive phase of the Five Elements cycle.  It is associated with heat, the season of summer and the emotion joy.  In the body it manifests primarily through the Heart, seen in Chinese medicine as the emperor of our internal kingdom, but its significance and power is such that it is allotted four meridians.  We will explore a variety of static and moving forms that connect to these meridians and their associated organs, and balance and support this work with the Earth and Water Elements.  We will incorporate bird forms, this being the animal most associated with Fire.  Working with the Fire Element can bring clarity of mind, aid restful sleep and help us to fully embrace life.  The session will be gently paced and will be suitable for the beginner.  There will be a break.
